The current generation of students are known as technological learners because they apply computer and technology skills to learning and problem-solving. With Bloomz timelines students can upload data to create a digital portfolio. I’ve combined the technology standards from ISTE Standards for Students with the general content area standards from Common Core State Standards to outline three ways teachers can incorporate technology using Bloomz timelines:
- Students Upload a Video of Themselves Reading Out Loud to the Timeline
- Reading Standards: Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings. Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.
- Technology Standards: Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.
- Students Upload an Interview, Oral Presentation, or Skit to the Timeline
- Speaking and Listening Standards: Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to gather additional information or clarify something that is not understood. Describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and feelings clearly. Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly.
- Technology Standards: Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations.
- Students Type a Writing Assignment Directly Into the Timeline
- Writing Standards: Students write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
- Technology Standards: With guidance and support from adults, students use digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.
There are endless ways to integrate technology in today’s educational world. Game based learning, web based projects, and student created media like podcasts are a few examples.
